WIP Climbing Okotoks is a continuation of the vision first started by Vanessa and Chris Kershaw. The young couple saw an opportunity to foster a climbing community in the Okotoks region. In 2017 they founded Big Rock Bouldering and invested all they had and committed 100% to the success of there business. They built a beautiful gym and seeded the roots for a new climbing community. Unfortunately in spring of 2020, due to extreme financial conditions caused by the global pandemic they were not able to see the vision through. That spring the doors to Big Rock Bouldering closed indefinitely. In the fall of 2020 economic conditions improved and the Big Rock Bouldering facility was presented to WIP Climbing and we were excited about the opportunity to continue the vision started by Vanessa and Chris and grow a climbing community in the Okotoks area. Our inspiration for this facility is two fold; first it is designed to welcome new climbers to the sport and second to bring the existing climbing community together. WIP Okotoks brings elements that work from WIP Counteny, Bolder, gneiss and Big Rock Bouldering and fits them cleanly into this space while keeping form and function paramount.
